Rachel Zoe Just Released a Dreamy Home Decor Line with the Pottery Barn Brands
You know her as a celebrity stylist, fashion designer, and the creative force behind the Zoe Report lifestyle website, but Rachel Zoe has long been passionate about the world of interior design. Now, Zoe is finally giving the world a taste of her design aesthetic with the launch of home collections for Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen. Just in time for the holiday season, the collections consist of 50 must-have items and are everything you'd expect from Zoe.
The Rachel Zoe for Pottery Barn Kids Collection includes home decor and accessories that are perfect for a nursery or playroom. Think functional pieces with rich textures, statement animal prints, and soft hues like blush tones and ivory. And, of course, the collections are all about glamour. There's no shortage of sequins and metallics, plus charming accents that encourage teens to express their personal style.
ELLE Decor checked in with Zoe for details on the home decor collections, which are now available on PotteryBarnKids.com, PotteryBarnTeen.com, as well as select Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen stores.
ELLE Decor: Why did you choose to partner with Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen?
Rachel Zoe: I have always been such a fan of the Pottery Barn brands. They are so well-known and iconic, and have been a part of my life and so many of my households for many years. Collaborating with them is an honor.
ED: How would you describe the aesthetic of the collection and what's your personal approach when it comes to decorating for children?
RZ: Decorating a home is a natural extension of my process as a designer and stylist, and I truly love doing it. Expanding in the home space is always something I’ve wanted to do, and I feel like I’m just getting started. The aesthetic of the collection is very true to me. It's the perfect representation of effortless glamour that is demonstrated across the core of all my brands. I wanted it to feel incredibly glamorous but still warm, inviting, and dreamlike.
When decorating for children or anywhere in my home, I like to keep the investment pieces neutral and then decorate around those items with luxe textures and metallic accents. I like things to be interesting and unique, but to maintain a feeling of timelessness. It’s important because then the room can transcend time or trends. Don’t be afraid to add fringe, sequins, and gold accents to a room because those details make a statement but remain iconic and classic.
ED: You also love the 70s glam vibe. How is this reflected in the collection?
RZ: I always have to stay true to who I am, and the inspiration I draw from the 60’s and 70’s is a major part of my design aesthetic in fashion and home decor.
ED: How do you find the right balance of crafting a stylish space for kids, but still ensuring that it's comfortable and outfitted with pieces that are easy enough to clean?
RZ: For me, the balance is about keeping the room chic but also comfortable. The best way to do that is by using soft, but very durable fabrics. I also have a house rule that there are no shoes allowed upstairs, which helps a little bit with the cleanliness.
ED: Can you share a bit about your boys' bedrooms and what pieces from the collection you plan to use in your own home?
RZ: The boys’ bedrooms are very dream-like and I wanted that to be a part of this collaboration, especially with the bedding and linens. I love the feathered mirror and fringe lamp chandelier. I will definitely be adding those pieces to my home.
ED: What's your take on the impact fashion has on interior design?
RZ: Fashion and interior design go hand and hand. I approached this collaboration in the same way I do when I’m designing and styling. I always have a classic color palette of black, white, and metallics with luxe fabrics and textures. I love to accessorize a room with dramatic light fixtures and strong accent pieces.
ED: What decor trends are you obsessed with right now, especially for children?
RZ: I love that we can now approach nurseries and childrens’ rooms as we do our own. There are lots of options in the mid-century style that look incredible in a child’s room but still feel appropriate.
