Farmer Issues Stern Warning After Cow Suffocates on a Released Balloon

A farmer saw a devastating sight this week when she went out into her pasture to discover that one of her cows had suffocated on a balloon. The balloon was presumably released by someone in memory of someone who has passed away.

The farmer created a TikTok video to warn people of the dangers of doing this. Not only does it put animals at risk, but it is also a form of pollution. They are essentially releasing garbage into the environment, which is not good.

An alternative to releasing balloons, a group could blow bubbles up into the air or leave candles at the person’s grave. There are plenty of other options that don’t involve littering the environment.

Countless animals both on land and in the sea have fallen victim to suffocating on a balloon. These balloon releases need to be outlawed, many animal advocates argue.

How To Help The Issue

If you have time, you can volunteer to pick up trash along the side of the road. This helps prevent entrapment of animals. It will also help to keep the waterways clean for the fish and the turtles.

When you’re driving, make a point to keep a garbage bag in your car so that you aren’t throwing things out the window and littering. You can also make a point to pick up garbage that you see lying around when you’re out for walks.

You can discourage people from releasing balloons by sharing posts on social media about it. The more that the information gets shared around, the more people will be able to spread further awareness about it.

Animals are defenseless in all of this, yet they are the ones who fall victim to eating and choking on balloons. Even if they are able to eat it, they will not be able to digest it and they will get very ill.

The best way to defend against balloons being released is really spreading awareness of the heartache this can cause. In this farm’s case, a calf was crying next to the dead cow. Her mother had suffocated on a balloon.

Dogs can unfortunately suffocate on balloons, too. It would be so unfortunate for this to happen, but sometimes animals just get very curious.

This farmer is in her right to make a stern warning to the public about the dangers of these balloon releases. They can affect animals large and small; they don’t discriminate.
