Farmacy’s Best-Selling Cleansing Balm Has Doubled in Size But Not in Price

Calling all fans of Farmacy's Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm: Starting today you can get your hands on a jumbo-size version of this beloved product, but only while supplies last. And get this: The original 3.4-ounce size costs $34, while the limited-edition, larger size gives you double the product for $58. You do the math (or if you're terrible at math like I am, just understand that this is a pretty sweet deal).

We've already expressed our love for this minty, balm-to-oil cleanser, which won a Best of Beauty Award in 2017. Sephora buyers apparently love it too, since it continues to be the retailer's number-one seller in the cleanser category.

"It's so widely loved because of its ultra-hydrating yet gently exfoliating formula that melts away dirt and makeup instantly without leaving any oily residue," notes Mina Chae, director of marketing and consumer engagement at Farmacy.

We definitely agree, but why the larger size? "This time of year, customers are always requesting larger sizes for the holidays," she says, so the jumbo version is "the perfect solution for beauty enthusiasts, professionals, and novices alike, inspiring endless creativity this fall and winter season."

If you're new to this type of cleanser, we won't fault you. I was late to the cleansing balm craze myself. But once I started using one as part of my nightly double-cleansing routine, I was hooked. "They are a great first step for removing makeup before using a traditional cleanser to clean the pores out effectively," explains board-certified dermatologist Arash Akhavan of the Dermatology and Laser Group in New York City. "Sometimes, for extremely dry skin such as with people suffering from eczema, a balm cleanser used alone may help prevent excessive drying for the patient."

The cool thing about a balm cleanser is that it works to remove makeup (yes, even waterproof mascara and eyeliner) when applied to dry skin; then you just rinse or wipe it off with a damp washcloth. This balm cleanser is formulated with good-for-your-skin ingredients including sunflower and ginger root oils, turmeric and moringa extracts plus papaya enzymes that act as natural exfoliators. All of these oils also make it a particularly wise product choice during the colder months "as they are less likely to overly dry your skin" than traditional foaming options, Akhavan says.

Don't just take my word for it. Allure's associate digital beauty director Sarah Kinonen says, "This cleanser has become a permanent fixture in my skin-care routine. After every nightly use — a minute or two of gently massaging the stuff all over my face (lashes included) — my skin feels super soft, cleaner than clean, and far from slick."

The double-size version of Farmacy's Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm is available for $58 at sephora.com.
