With 2023 coming to a close, it’s time to break out fantastic fashions to celebrate the year in feel-good style.

As seen throughout the men’s and women’s fall and resort collections and across the latest accessory and jewelry lines, designers continue to propose festive, sparkling and bold looks for New Year’s Eve festivities.

Looking for party-ready, head-turning glitzy frocks? See LaQuan Smith’s shimmering black fringed halterneck gown, Puppets & Puppet’s fiery red sequined frocks and Schiaparelli Couture’s technicolor gown.

Going bold in metallics also feels just right to ring in the New Year, with brands like Balenciaga, Giambattista Valli, Rodarte and Alexandra Vauthier infusing silver and gold to give megawatt shine. Similarly, for Jean Paul Gaultier’s Haute Couture fall 2023 show, guest designer Julien Dossena from Rabanne proposed gilded corsetry numbers, while Rick Owens leaned into full fantasy with his bulbous, donut-like pink sequin number.

The power of feel-good fantasy also continues via stark black and white dressing a la Miu Miu’s polka dot slip; Marc Jacob’s power dressing-minded mini with sharp-shouldered jacket; Saint Laurent’s ultra chic cowl-back silk satin crepe blouse and high-waisted cashmere leggings, and Nensi Dojaka’s signature minimalist minded, body-baring black layers. Speaking of transparencies, for those a little more daring, look no further than Courreges, Versace and Gucci’s sparkling nude styles (topped with a perfectly over-the-top feather hat).

New Year’s Eve accessories serve one purpose: to add shine to any festive frock. Diamonds, like cascading chandler earrings from Anita Ko or the four-demensional ourglass necklace from Ox, add lots of sparkle. Try a crystal platform heel from Nodaleto to make a shinning step at midnight. The martini clutch from Judith Leiber Couture is a conversation starter, and perhaps pair it with a Jennifer Behr star tiara to stand out at the evening’s festivities. Count the minutes to 2024 with a Cartier diamond encrusted Tank Française and Loewe crystal studded eyewear, stylish ways to wish the old year adieu.

For the gents, festive attire still means “dress to impress,” and while a suit or tuxedo might be in order, men are now also having fun by adding doses of color and choices of fabric, such as sequins and metallic appliqués, into their New Year’s looks.

Even with a classic tux, the abundance of options nowadays are plentiful — such as Brunello Cucinelli’s burgundy velvet tuxedo jacket with contrasting black lapels and a classic black trouser, or Dries Van Noten’s slim-fit metallic jacquard tuxedo, tailored from jacquard in a unique geometric pattern.

Creative black tie encourages men to add pops of texture and color to their formal wear, whether you opt for a slim cut jacket with a brightly red abstract floral appliqué with cutout details on the backside from Alexander McQueen; a classic slim-cut black tuxedo with vest, such as an all-black shimmering sequined look from Emporio Armani; a slim-fit gold lamé blazer from Celine, with contrasting black shawl lapels tied in with tonal trousers, or an overtly bold silver sequined suit look with fringes from Amiri.

Men are also opting for statement-making accessories to finish their look, such as a 14-karat white gold emerald tennis necklace from 42 Suns, which can be layered comfortably over collars; a monk-strap creeper style two-tone patent-leather shoe from Valentino — embellished with the signature “Rockstuds” along the welt — or a pair of loafers from Manolo Blahnik that have been crafted from black velvet and adorned with crystal-embellished buckles.
