It's hard to believe that it's been almost 20 years since Fantasia Barrino won American Idol! The North Carolina native took home the crown at age 19, and found herself struggling with her newfound fame. The decades have been filled with highs and lows, and Fantasia has persevered through depression, a suicide attempt, and bankruptcy to win a Grammy and star on Broadway. Now, she's reprising her role as Celie in the new theatrical release of The Color Purple. The 39-year-old mother of three found love almost 9 years ago with her husband, Kendall Taylor. Here's what we know about the entrepreneur.

Who is Fantasia's husband, Kendall Taylor?

Kendall grew up in a single-mother home in Gastonia, North Carolina. He had a child at age 15 and was involved in a life of crime, drugs, and violence until he turned his life around at age 27, becoming an award-winning entrepreneur and a community leader. Now, he's the CEO of Salute 1st and mentors young men and adolescents from all walks of life. He and Fantasia also own entertainment firm Rock Soul Entertainment. In 2022, the two co-wrote a relationship book, No Crowns in the Castle.

Fantasia opened up to Elle about her husband: "He treats me like a queen. He tells me I’m a queen every day. It’s not a day I don’t wake up to him saying, 'Good morning, beautiful.' I wasn’t quite used to it. It made me feel very, very uncomfortable in the beginning. But he has reminded me of who I was. I was broken. It wasn’t until I met my husband and I started becoming a woman that sat back and realized that everything I went through was necessary. "

How did Fantasia and Kendall meet?

The two first met in 2015 at a nightclub and had an instant connection. According to Hollywood Life, they married at the courthouse just three weeks after meeting each other in a secret ceremony and then had a second ceremony in July of 2015 on a yacht.

Do Fantasia and Kendall have children?

The couple shares 2-year-old daughter Keziah Taylor. They welcomed her in 2021 after a 3-year-long fertility struggle. Fantasia is also mom to Dallas Xavier (12) and Zion Quari (22) from previous relationships. Kendall's son, Trey, has two children of his own, making Fantasia and Kendall grandparents!
