Netflix's 'Heartland' is the Feel-Good Show You've Been Looking For

Fans of Virgin River have more than enough reasons to boast over the esteemed show. For one, the series has stunning scenery and a beloved cast that just makes us want to pack our bags and start new lives in the fictional town. It also happens to be one of our favorite Netflix shows with a feel-good storyline. The only downfall is that we have to wait until the fall to jump back in!
Luckily, there's another show that's just like Virgin River available for streaming on Netflix right now! Heartland, a series going 16 seasons strong (soon-to-be 17), is no stranger to Netflix's most watched shows list—and for good reason, too!
Heartland is a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) original series, which premiered for the first time in 2007. The show initially followed a wild-hearted teenager named Amy (Amber Marshall), who we got to know as a grieving soul learning how to navigate her new life without her mother. The plot picks up when she moves to her family's ranch alongside her grandpa and (and eventually her once estranged dad, too), where she realizes she has a special talent for communicating with horses (just like her late mother). She must use these skills to help her family save their ranch from being taken over by government officials. From there, we watch as Amy grows up in this small town and faces the challenges of running a horse ranch.
Like a good portion of our favorite shows, Heartland is a series based on a book. Or, in this case, many books! Heartland was written by author Lauren Brooke, who saw its' story span over 20 novels!

You could consider Heartland a mix between Virgin River (just as feel-good, romantic, and dramatic) and Yellowstone (hello, ranch life!). Basically, the best of both worlds!
As we mentioned before, there are currently 16 seasons of Heartland, and season 17 is officially in production, according to a press release. You can stream the first 15 seasons of Heartland on Netflix right now making it the perfect substitute to binge while you await the Virgin River season 5 premiere! Who knows, it just may become your new favorite show!
