Fans were dismayed this week to learn that Jamie Lee Curtis didn't receive an Emmy nomination after delivering a moving performance in the second season of FX’s The Bear on Hulu

Curtis, who appeared as a guest star in the show's most recent season, had fans rallying for the legendary actress to be recognized for a potential Emmy. And after winning her first-ever Oscar this year for her supporting role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, fans thought Curtis was a shoo-in

But the 64-year-old actress was notably left off the list of nominees announced by the Television Academy on Wednesday, July 12, prompting an uproar of protests online from her loyal fanbase.

However, Curtis' name not being among the 2023 nominees has nothing to do with talent and much more to do with eligibility rules.

According to the rules, a series had to air at least six episodes by May 31 to be eligible for a 2023 Emmy nomination. For docuseries, at least three episodes needed to air, and for limited or anthology series, the full show needed to air by the deadline.

As a result, all the guest actors from The Bear Season 2 were all left off the nominees list for this year, though the show's first season was still eligible for 2023. That explains The Bear's nods for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Casting, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for star Jeremy Allen White, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Ayo Edebiri, Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for Jon Bernthal and Oliver Platt, and several technical categories that are all in reference to Season 1.

But hope is not lost for Curtis' highly-anticipated Emmy nomination, as Season 2 will be eligible for the 2024 Emmy Awards.

"Mark my words, Jamie Lee Curtis will win the Emmy if/when she is nominated next year," one fan wrote on Twitter in defense of the Halloween alum. "If you haven't watched The Bear, you should. And if you have no desire to watch the entire series then just watch *this* episode. You'll see what I mean."
