Fans Think Timothée Chalamet Looked Like Jess Mariano from “Gilmore Girls” at the Oscars 2020
The Oscars 2020 were full of many highly glamorous red carpet looks. Timothée Chalamet’s formal tracksuit might not have been one of them but his outfit certainly didn’t go unnoticed.
The beloved Little Women star, who was presenting at the awards, and his Prada zip-up blazer and matching pants have attracted comparisons to a valet driver’s uniform, John Travolta in Grease, and Glee’s Sue Sylvester. But the outfit also seems to have made some fans reminisce about Gilmore Girls. Well, more specifically about Milo Ventimiglia's angsty Jess Mariano.
Upon seeing Tim’s outfit, many Gilmore Girls stans were quick to point out just how much the look made him look like Jess. “Jess Mariano walked so Timothée could fix my Honda,” Tweeted writer Caroline Moss. “Listen, Timothée Chalamet was giving us straight Gilmore Girls Season 2 Jess Mariano vibes at the #Oscars tonight and you will not convince me otherwise!” another fan wrote, providing side by side photographic proof.
When factoring in the fact that both Tim and Jesse have enviable swoopy hair, it’s easy to see the similarity. In fact, the two fan-favorites have drawn comparisons before — even without the tracksuit-inspired look. Earlier this year, one fan Tweeted that “Timothée Chalamet is just younger Jess Mariano with a few ice cubes thrown in.”
All car-related jokes and Gilmore Girls comparisons aside, Timothée’s Oscars look further proved that he can do no wrong in his fans' eyes and, not going to lie, we have to applaud his boundary-breaking rejection of the event’s formal dress code.
After all, this isn’t the first time he’s made a bold statement on the red carpet — yes, we’re talking about that bright pink suit paired with a tiny gold replica of the Eiffel Tower — and it certainly won’t be the last time.
It will also be impossible to unsee the Jess Mariano comparison from now on and we’re definitely not mad about it. As one Twitter user put it, “Comparing Timothée Chalamet to Jess Mariano nation rose up tonight and I think that's beautiful I didn't know I needed that.”
