Rebel Wilson's fans think she and boyfriend Jacob Busch may have broken up.
The speculation began when the actress shared an Instagram referring to herself as a "#single-girl."
Rebel and Busch first met in 2019 and began dating in early 2020.
Throughout her Year of Health, Rebel Wilson worked out, traveled, and quarantined with boyfriend Jacob Busch by her side. But now it looks like the couple are officially over. Just days after the Pitch Perfect star, 40, posted an Instagram photo where she referred to herself as a "#single-girl," a source told Us Weekly that she broke up with the Anheuser-Busch heir, 29, in a text message.
"They went to Aspen right before the holidays and had a blast. Then, he left for Florida to be with his family, and he invited her because he really wanted her to meet [them] but she never committed to doing that," the source told the publication. "They talked all throughout the holidays and had excellent communication, but then, all of a sudden, she got really quiet and broke up with him via text message about two or three weeks ago." Busch is reportedly "really upset" with how things turned out.
So, why did Rebel Wilson and Jacob Busch break up?
According to the source, even Busch doesn't know for sure. He is reportedly looking for "full closure on why she [Rebel] decided to break up with him to begin with," per the source. "He’s at a loss for words right now. He feels blindsided. He’s still taking it in. He really thought she was going to be his life partner."
After receiving the text message from the How To Be Single star, he started trying to make things work, reportedly. "He was trying to make amends since he received the text, and then today when he saw the post, that’s [when] he realized they were officially over," the source said. (FYI: Rebel isn't the only celeb to end things over text. Justin Hartley informed ex-wife Chrishell Stause that he was filing for divorce via text, too. So...maybe this is some kind of new celeb trend?)
Back up: What exactly did Rebel say on Instagram?
Rumors started to swirl about their romance ending after the Bridesmaids actress shared an Instagram post with the caption, "Lots on my mind...aghhhhhh...#single-girl-heading-to-Super-Bowl!" The photo showed Rebel emerging from a trailer wearing a form-fitting denim dress by Oscar de la Renta and bright yellow cardigan. (Some fans thought she was shooting Pitch Perfect 4, but it's more likely Pooch Perfect, her ABC dog grooming show.)
That hashtag instantly had fans buzzing with questions. "Single girl??? I hope that doesn't mean you e broke up with the hot guys you were seeing," one fan commented. Meanwhile, another said, "you look absolutely amazing so beautiful x" while still another just wrote "Single??" with the scream-face emoji.
How long were Rebel and Busch together before breaking up?
The ex-couple kept their relationship low-key throughout 2020, though they flew on private jets, went to Monaco and Aspen, and hung out on yachts together (casual). The couple also made their red carpet debut together at Prince Albert’s Monte-Carlo Gala for Planetary Health.
Reportedly, Rebel and Busch first crossed paths in 2019 and then got back in touch. "They met last year and started casually dating before coronavirus hit," a source told Us Weekly. "They kept in touch while Rebel was in Australia, and when she returned back to the U.S., they picked back up dating again and became serious."
