Tonight's episode of Riverdale is the final one before we jump ahead seven years into the future. Next week, Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead will be older, wiser, and seemingly no longer dating. Sorry Bughead fans, but there are rumors that Jughead will be heading back to Riverdale with a new girlfriend, and some think she may be played by Nina Dobrev.

Fans were suspicious back in November, when Nina posted some photos with the cast of Riverdale, namely Camila Mendes, Madelaine Petsch, and Lili Reinhart. Nina also added a geotag to the photo, showing that the pics were taken in Vancouver, British Columbia, which is where Riverdale is filmed.

In order to continue production during COVID, the Riverdale set was on strict lockdown, and the cast had to quarantine and be very careful while they were filming the show. Because of that, it doesn't seem like guests would just be able to come visit them, meaning if Nina was there, she may have been there for a reason, like to be on the show.

Add that evidence to a casting call put out by the Riverdale production team. According to The Hashtag Show, Riverdale was previously looking for an actress to play Jessica, Jughead's live-in girlfriend. The character is described as a female in her 20s and a "train-wreck-y hipster." Apparently, "Jessica makes no secret of the fact that she’s done with their relationship, since she can see that she’s not as important to him as the book he’s not writing."

So, fans put two and two together and figured Nina would be perfect for the role of Jessica, and boy, are they excited. "@Ninadobrev and @CW_Riverdale is the collab I didn't know I needed," one person wrote.

"So I heard that @ninadobrev is going to be in riverdale and that just gave me every reason to start watching the show," said another.

Of course, these are just rumors, but seriously, how down would you be for a Riverdale/The Vampire Diaries crossover? Luckily, we only have to wait one week to see if all of our CW high school drama dreams come true.
