Fans Think Joe Alwyn Secretly Wrote Two Songs on Taylor Swift’s New Album

Taylor Swift may be back at it again with those clever little aliases. It's well known by now that Swift went by Nils Sjöberg to cowrite "This Is What You Came For," a song she worked on for her ex Calvin Harris and Rihanna. The name even appeared on a tombstone in a scene from the original "Look What You Made Me Do" video.

Then, back in May, Swift drove her fans back into the world of conspiracy theories by giving a shoutout to a band that doesn't exist for covering “LWYMMD” in an episode of Killing Eve. Believing Swift was pulling a very intelligent fast one on Scooter Braun, fans did a quick deep dive into Jack Leopards & the Dolphin Club, discovering that Dolphin Club used to be Swift's brother Austin's old Twitter handle, and the image used to promote the single looks a lot like a picture of him from childhood. Oh yeah, and good ole Nils Sjöberg was listed as a producer along with Jack Antonoff.

Now, just after Swift announced her surprise eighth studio album, Folklore, on July 23, fans think they found yet another Easter egg in the credits. 

“Surprise 🤗Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into,” she wrote on Instagram. “I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine; @aarondessner (who has co-written or produced 11 of the 16 songs), @boniver (who co-wrote and was kind enough to sing on one with me), William Bowery (who co-wrote two with me) and @jackantonoff (who is basically musical family at this point).”

Who is this William Bowery and why is he definitely (maybe) Taylor Swift's own boyfriend, Joe Alwyn? 

For one, the name doesn't seem to come up when you search on Spotify and Apple Music. Two, many fans recall that one of Swift and Alwyn's first nights together was spent at a Kings of Leon concert after-party at the Bowery Hotel in 2016.

Last but not least, Alwyn's great grandfather is listed on Wikipedia as the composer William Alwyn. 

Sure, some fans are thinking William might be yet another potential pseudonym for Austin Swift, but there doesn't seem to be a reason he'd have to go incognito on this album. As for Alwyn, he and Swift—who have been quarantined together throughout the coronavirus pandemic—have been purposefully private throughout their relationship.

They might just have to be even sneakier the next time around.
