Emma Stone has once again proved that she can pull off any hair color! Photos of the Oscar winner with jet-black tresses on the set of her upcoming film Poor Things emerged on social media this week, and fans can’t get enough of the La La Land star’s gothic transformation.

Some noted on Instagram that they needed to do a double take and “almost didn’t recognize” the Easy A alum with darker locks, as opposed to her signature fiery color.

Stone is set to star in the forthcoming Yorgos Lanthimos-directed, surrealist, sci-fi rom-com (based on the 1992 novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray) and she will play Bella Baxter, a woman brought back to life by scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter, played by Willem Dafoe. The star-studded flick will hit US theaters on September 8, 2023.

Fans React To New Photos Of Emma Stone With Black Hair On Set Of Upcoming Film

New pics from the movie set show a black-haired Stone wearing a chic black mini coat dress with puffy sleeves and large buttons. The frock also has a very Wednesday Addams-esque white collar and a thigh-skimming hemline. Her raven tresses were slicked back in the images and it appears that her eyebrows were dyed to match.

As for her makeup, Stone’s team went for a pale powder on her fair skin and a light pink lip color. The Help actress also wore gray thigh-high socks with black, knee-high, pointed-toe, heeled boots.

The film, as W Magazinenotes, is a story of “love, discovery and scientific daring,” and also set in the Victorian era, as seen by Stone’s costume. The outlet further describes the film’s plot as one that centers around a “Frankenstein-like woman brought back from the dead after her brain is replaced with that of her unborn child.”

In the first brief teaser for the flick, a ghostly looking Stone “wanders, dances and runs around a dreamlike landscape,” the publication writes. At one point, Stone’s character says, “I am finding being alive fascinating” before spitting out food at a dinner table.

This role is noteworthy, as it marks Stone’s first significant movie feature since 2021’s Cruella. In the comment section of an Instagram post by film buff page Letterboxd, fans began sharing their thoughts on Stone’s new look, with some comparing it to that of the iconic 101 Dalmatians villain.

“Why this giving more Cruella vibes than the actual Cruella movie,” one wrote regarding the image that saw Stone posing in front of an intricate mansion while standing in snow. Another compared her to Jenna Ortega’s character on the hit Netflix show Wednesday, writing, “she’s giving Wednesday.”

Others thought she resembled singer Lorde, as someone commented, “LORDE ANNOUNCED A NEW ALBUM???” and another agreed, “she’s about to start singing royals.” Other Stone devotees were just “simply happy” to see her return to the big screen and conveyed their (and our) thoughts with heart-eye and black heart emojis.

With gothic glam looks taking Hollywood by storm lately, we’re excited to see Stone take on the trend too as we await the exciting film!
