It’s the 2017 Oscars all over again…. On December 14, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone proved they still hold the title of Hollywood’s most supportive exes, with Garfield attending the London premiere of Stone’s latest film, Poor Things.

In case you forgot, Garfield began dating Stone while filming The Amazing Spider-Man in 2011, despite being warned against mixing work with romance. Though the pair ultimately split in 2015, they have remained close friends ever since. In fact, Garfield went viral in 2017 for tearing up as his ex took home best actress at the Oscars in 2017 for her performance in La La Land.

“There’s so much love between us and so much respect," Garfield told Vanity Fair around that time. “I’ll speak for myself: You know, I’m her biggest fan as an artist. I’m constantly inspired by her work. I’m constantly inspired by how she handles and holds herself. So for me, I’ve—it’s been bliss to be able to watch her success and watch her bloom into the actress that she is. And it’s also been wonderful to have that kind of support for each other. It’s nothing but a beautiful thing.”

Six years later, Stone and Garfield’s delightful friendship has gone viral once again. In a video circulating online, Stone appeared to have a big reaction to spotting Garfield in the audience at the London premiere of Poor Things. After she’d allegedly pointed toward him from the stage, the video shared by X.com user @thomasduke98 seems to show Stone continuing to gesture excitedly to him as she exits the theater. Meanwhile, Garfield can be seen hugging Stone’s costar Mark Ruffalo in another clip.

“I didn’t realise I captured a historic moment,” @thomasduke98 tweeted once the video went viral, before admitting the opposite. “Okay I partially did, that’s why I was recording it but still this reaction to the video is so cute.”

While one fan claimed the video brought “real tears” to their eyes, another said Stone and Garfield’s reunions “mean the world” to them.

Following her split from Garfield, Stone met comedy writer Dave McCary in 2016 when she hosted Saturday Night Live. The pair wed in 2020 and welcomed their first child in March 2021.

While her relationship with Garfield is now platonic, they have remained in contact—even texting about his secret appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home before it came out in December 2021. “Emma kept on texting me. She was like, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’” Garfield told Happy Sad Confused podcast host Josh Horowitz in January 2022. “And I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’”

He continued, “She was like, ‘Shut up. Just tell me.’ I’m like, ‘I honestly’—I kept it going, even with her. And then she saw it. She was like, ‘You’re a jerk.’” Clearly, she’s forgiven him.
