Brie Larson‘s fans have been noticing and spotting new cardboard stands for The Marvels in movie theaters across the US, and as noted by many on social media, Larson and her co-stars’ faces look noticeably “edited” or “altered.”

In a new Reddit thread this week, one fan snapped a photo of one of the stands, and many are analyzing just why Larson (who plays Captain Marvel/ Carol Danvers) and fellow actresses Iman Vellani (who portrays Kamala Khan/ Ms. Marvel) and Teyonah Parris (who stars as Monica Rambeau) seem to look “off” or “different.”

One fan suggested that the pics were heavily “Photoshopped” as another commented: “For me it looks like they airbrushed Iman’s mask off. Brie doesn’t even look like Brie.”

Each cardboard stand features images of the three stars, with Larson in the center. “I think Brie’s face being weird is because her mask runs down the side of her face and chin,” one commented, adding: “Definitely looks like they took masked promos and tried to unmask them. If you overlay where Iman’s mask normally is, I bet she would look entirely normal again.”

Someone else replied: “i saw this at a theater last night and all i could think was why does brie larsons face look so weird on that?” One other chimed in: “I think it’s her eyes. They have some kind of glow in them.”

Larson frequently posts and shares stunning all-natural selfies without makeup for her 7.1 million followers, which could be why any editing of her face may seem “obvious” as another noted.

As for when these cardboard stands began appearing in theaters, one Reddit user wrote: “They showed up a few days before the second trailer. I think around July 18-19. I saw it on July 20th when I saw Barbie and it was brand new then.”

The upcoming Marvels flick will serve as a sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel. The latest trailer for the film hints at an epic showdown, with a focus on a diverse group of powerful women superheroes who possess abilities akin to that of the iconic character portrayed by Larson.

Other fans believe Larson’s hero will likely appear in the 2025 Avengers film, Secret Wars, as well, though there aren’t many details surrounding its plot yet.

The Marvels will hit US theaters on November 10, 2023, as part of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 5.
