Did Ariana Grande Subtweet Pete Davidson After He Joked About Her on SNL ?

To say Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s relationship has been a roller coaster would be an understatement. Since the pair reportedly split in October, they've embarked on a journey of tattoo cover-ups, Chanel shopping sprees, and now, it seems, subtweets.

Pete appeared to reference his and Ariana's engagement in a joke during a Saturday Night Live promo, released on November 1, with host Jonah Hill and musical guest Maggie Rogers, according to People. In the clip, Pete jokingly asks Maggie to marry him, a proposal she promptly declines. Pete then adds, “0 for 3,” referring to his and Ariana’s short-lived engagement, and a still-unknown one (potentially to either Cazzie David or comedian Carly Aquilino, both of whom he has dated in the past).

On the evening of November 1, Ariana began tweeting what looked to fans to be subtweets referencing Pete's engagement joke. First she wrote, "For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh," then added in a subsequent tweet, "Thank u, next." She next retweeted a person who posted the SNL clip with the caption, "Tag yourself I'm Maggie," and added a simple period as her own tweet. All three tweets have since been deleted from Ariana's account.

Ariana's likes also indicate she had seen the SNL promo. She liked a tweet that read, "SNL is about to milk their breakup just like they did with the engagement." Later in the evening, Ariana liked another fan tweet that read, "God gives his strongest soldiers the toughest battles and I know how much that sucks but just remember we come back better than ever the next time."

In response to the tweets and likes, Ariana fans speculated on Twitter that Pete was the subject. As one person wrote, "Ariana Grande just slammed Pete Davidson on Twitter." Another added, "ARIANA GRANDE REALLY DRAGGED PETE DAVIDSON THAT HARD AND THEN LEFT."

Although it's impossible to prove Ariana's tweets explicitly reference Pete and the aftermath of their breakup, it does seem like she's using the tried-and-true post-breakup subtweet as a way to comment on what's going on in her life. And the SNL promos aren't the first time Pete has poked fun at the breakup. On October 20, he referred to the split in a benefit show, saying, "Well, as you could tell, I don't want to be here. There's a lot going on. Does anybody have any open rooms? Looking for a roommate?"

Following the split, Ariana had previously announced a well-deserved break from social media, but she has since been quite active on both Instagram (to promote her Wicked performance) and Twitter.
