Martin Henderson penned a tear-jerkingly honest post about losing his beloved dog Sammy, and he didn't hold back, leading fans to come to the actor's aid.

Over the weekend, the 49-year-old Virgin River star shared a photo of a lovable puppy he got the chance to snuggle and alongside the adorable snap, he opened up about the grief he still feels two years after he first mourned Sammy's loss.

"Many people ask me where Sammy is. I’ve mentioned before that he sadly passed away two summers ago," Henderson began in the caption of his Nov. 26 upload. "Been a big empty space in my life since which I’ve managed to fill with a huge amount of gratitude for the blessing he was in my life and all the love we shared."

Henderson's statement continued, "I haven’t felt much like interacting with dogs since case it still hurts me a lot to come close to what I’ve lost since his passing but I must be healing because this little bundle of fur and sweetness was a joy to snuggle. 🐶 ♥️."

It didn't take long for social media users to fill up the comments with love, support and even some advice for the Grey's Anatomy alum to move forward with his grief.

"Another dog will help heal your heart," one top-liked comment suggested. "And there are so many that need a home. It wouldn’t be replacing Sammy. It would be saving a dog’s life and giving it a home. Sammy would like that."

"I relate to those feelings completely," a second admitted. "The gap a dearly loved dog leaves."

"The only thing that will help fill the void of Sammy’s love is the unconditional love of another cold nose looking to you to guide him through life and be his whole life," another shared. "Glad to see you coming around. You will know when it’s time when the right one finds you❣️🥰."

"Time for new best buddy. doesn't mean you love your lost dog any less but you can have a wonderful bond with another loving dog," someone else wrote.

Even PETA got in on the conversation, writing, "Losing our companion animals is never easy, and we should take all the time we need until we’re ready to let another into our lives. But we’re so happy to hear that you’re progressing in your journey of healing, and we wish the best for you going forward too ❤️ Sammy forever!"

Though Sammy is gone, he'll live on in the hearts of those who adored him forever.
