Fans Are Showing Up for Shakira and Her Family After Seeing Powerful Instagram

Shakira is in everyone’s thoughts after she shared a health update about her dad, William Mebarak Chadid.
Earlier this week, photos surfaced online of the Dancing With Myself judge riding in an ambulance in Barcelona, Spain. The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer took to Twitter on June 4 to reveal that she had accompanied her father to the hospital over Memorial Day weekend after he suffered “a bad fall.” In the tweet featuring a photo of Shakira and William, she informed concerned fans that he was focusing on recovery and asked them to “send all [of their] best wishes his way.”
Most recently, on June 8, the Colombian singer-songwriter shared a glimpse of her dad’s health progress. “With my dad after being discharged,” she captioned an Instagram video. “Back at home and on the mend, helping him with his cognitive stimulation after the trauma. Thank you to everyone for supporting us with immense love.❣️”
In the minute-long clip, Shakira stands in front of her dad holding up cards with Spanish words, which she encourages him to say out loud, including “read,” “throw” and “drink.” She can be heard saying, “Very good … Louder dad, your voice.” By the end of the snippet, the "Whenever, Wherever" vocalist is visibly happy when her dad picks up the speed reading the words with more energy.
Reacting to the video, Shakira’s fans showed their support in her comments section with heartwarming messages (the majority of which were in Spanish and we translated). “How beautiful! We’re sending you positive energy for you and your family, Shaki. ❤️,” one person wrote. “You are the best daughter, mother, friend, sister. You are the best in all those aspects Shakira Isabel. The world is at your feet ❤️thank you for existing truly.. 👏,” another added. “It gives me so much joy that Mr. William is recovering well! Many blessings and health 😍,” a different fan said.
Before rising to fame in the late 1990s, Shakira was born in the Colombian city of Barranquilla to her father, William, and her mother, Nidia del Carmen Mebarak. (See a pic of the three above.) While she is the couple’s only child, she has eight half-siblings from her dad’s first marriage.
