Fans React to ‘Outlander’ Coming to an End After Season 8

It's official, ladies and gentlemen—Outlander is coming to an end! 

Today, STARZ announced that the beloved romantic time-travel series has been renewed for its eighth and final season. 

The announcement was both cause for celebration and mourning for fans who have fallen in love with the show since it first aired on the network in 2014.

While some fans called the news "bittersweet," others were just excited to be getting an eighth season!

"I can’t believe season 8 of outlander is going to be the last," one fan wrote alongside a meme of Patrick Star from Spongebob Squarepants tearing up.

"Excited that there will be a season 8! Thank you Sam and the cast and crew for bringing this wonderful series to us!" one fan wrote in response to actor Sam Heughan's announcement via Twitter.

"Wow I’m really happy it’s renewed but also so sad 8 will be the ending of the series . Thanks in advance for bringing us 8 -it’s been amazing each season -have loved the journey with you all since the beginning," one grateful fan gushed.

"Bittersweet is right. So happy, and yet so sad that the journey will end with Season 8." another user tweeted.

"Bittersweet news. Happy for season 8, sad that is over. A beautiful journey. All the beautiful things end one day,they said. We thank you and all the cast for everything. And this is not the end of the journey." one fan wrote.

"'Don’t Be Sad Cause It’s Over, Be Happy Cause It Happened.' Thank you for everything," one optimistic fan shared.

Although Outlander is officially coming to an end, fans still have something to look forward to as the prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, has been given the green light and will be produced by the same team—Matthew B. Roberts, Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore.

Before we get to season 8, and the prequel, fans also have season 7 to look forward too. The seventh season of Outlander is set to air 16 episodes and will return in summer 2023!
