It's a match made in goth heaven: Jenna Ortega will officially have the main role in Beetlejuice 2 alongside the original's stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder.

The Hollywood Reporter announced the news, sharing that Ortega will reportedly star as Ryder's character Lydia Deetz's daughter, while Keaton is set to return as the hilariously obnoxious "bio-exorcist." Deadline also reported that Ryder is returning as Lydia, and Justin Theroux will have an undisclosed role.

Ortega's already been part of a beloved spooky and kooky franchise brought back to life, starring in Netflix's Tim Burton-helmed retelling of The Addams Family series Wednesday. With Wednesday fans being thrilled about seeing Ortega in another moody role, especially alongside icon Ryder, the response from fans of both Beetlejuice and the respective Netflix stars has been overwhelmingly positive.

However, some Beetlejuice fans are skeptical that the sequel can live up to the 1988 film despite its great cast.

Warner Bros. announced Beetlejuice 2 will be out on September 6, 2024. The movie is written by Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, which hints at what Beetlejuice fans can expect from the second installment. Production is scheduled to begin on May 10 in London.

The news comes nearly 8 years after Ryder said on Late Night With Seth Meyers that a Beetlejuice sequel was in the works. However, at the time she said that though she knew Burton was planning the movie and wanted her to star in it, she didn't know "more than anybody else."
