Angela Bassett is mourning the loss of someone who changed her life.

On May 24, news broke that legendary singer Tina Turner died at the age of 83. According to her publicist Bernard Doherty, the "Proud Mary" singer died at her home in Zurich, Switzerland, after battling an unnamed "long illness." In an official statement, he summed up what many were thinking, "With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model."

As many celebrities bid farewell to Tina on social media, Angela posted on Instagram to share her own personal tribute to the rock and roll musician. "How do we say farewell to a woman who owned her pain and trauma and used it as a means to help change the world?" the 9-1-1 star wrote alongside a photo of them together. "Tina Turner showed others who lived in fear what a beautiful future filled with love, compassion, and freedom should look like."

Angela continued: "Her final words to me — for me — were, 'You never mimicked me. Instead, you reached deep into your soul, found your inner Tina, and showed her to the world.' I shall hold these words close to my heart for the rest of my days ... I am humbled to have helped show her to the world."

She concluded her heartfelt goodbye to Tina by reminding folks the true mark she left on music and culture as a whole. "While we mourn the loss of this iconic voice and presence, she gave us more than we could have ever asked," the actress concluded. "She gave us her whole self. And Tina Turner is a gift that will always be 'simply the best.' Angels sing thee to thy rest … Queen."

The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star's eulogy stands out, as she had a personal connection to the late songstress. Angela famously portrayed Tina in 1993's What's Love Got to Do With It, which won her a Golden Globe and her first Oscar nomination. The duo developed a years-long friendship as a result, with the two often supporting one another in their later endeavors. Most recently, Tina wrote Angela's blurb when she was honored in April for Time's 100 Most Influential People of 2023.

"Angela, the first time we met, you didn’t look, sound, or move like me — that came later after you worked so hard to make it happen," Tina penned for the publication. "But even then, I could see that the young woman standing before me had strength, determination, and big, big dreams, just like me ... Whether you’re Tina Turner or the Queen of Wakanda, we believe in you because you believe in yourself. You honor all the women you play, just as you honored me."

Reacting to Angela's heartfelt Instagram tribute, fans reached out to her with supportive words.

"Oh my what a beautiful tribute and yes your courage to express humanity brought hers to life… thank you 🔥❤️," one person wrote. "You truly gave Tina her flowers in that biopic! Beautiful job well done! We love you & praying for you. Rest in Peace to THE ICON 🕊️🌟🙏🏽," another added. "Feeling the connection y’all had while you portrayed her was epic!" a different follower said.
