Fans Praise Brian Tyree Henry's 'Range' Following Actor's First Oscar Nomination

The actor just got his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for the film 'Causeway.'

On Jan. 24, the Academy Award nominations were announced, and while there were definitely a few major snubs, Brian Tyree Henry getting his first-ever nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his film Causeway is a welcome surprise.

Fans celebrating the actor and his nomination took to Twitter to discuss his career, with a common theme being praise for his range and ability to take on any role.

Writer Rebecca Theodore-Vachon wrote, "I am so happy for Brian Tyree Henry. When we talk about range, Brian is THAT dude. #Oscars2023." She added pictures of Henry from a few of his many great roles, including the films Widows and Eternals.

Many people shared their favorite Henry performances in the replies, with his roles as Alfred "Paper Boi" Miles in Atlanta, Lemon in Bullet Train, and Jefferson Davis in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse among just a few mentioned.

Actress Adina Porter of American Horror Story and The 100 cheered Henry on, tweeting, "Congratulations to Brian Tyree Henry on his Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in Causeway. What range he has!! #Oscars2023."

One of Tyree's fans echoed this sentiment with, "congrats brian tyree henry on being a first-time academy award nominee. so deserved— his range is crazy."

Many people are also tweeting a clip of Henry on The Late Late Show With James Corden, when fellow 2023 Oscar nominee Angela Basset said, in response to Henry jokingly asking her if she loved him or James Corden more at that moment, "I love what my eyes have laid sight on."

She continued, "And that is a completely brilliant artist whose work I've come to admire and to love. I appreciate the work that you do, and I hope to be lucky one day to work with you. Your vulnerability and sensitivity and strength, and you're just a badass!"
