Fans Once Again Call for Lizzo to Portray Ursula in "The Little Mermaid"

It's what we deserve!

The campaign for Lizzo to play Ursula in The Little Mermaid has officially returned.

The Lizzo-as-Ursula movement began last October when, after reports of a live action Little Mermaid remake, the songstress tweeted out an “audition tape” with the caption “Just gonna put this back out there. IT IS MY DREAM TO PLAY URSULA IN THE LIL MERMAID.” Two weeks later, she dressed up as Ursula for Halloween. Now, after a series of seriously nautical photos, fans have once again begun advocating for Lizzo’s rightful role as Disney’s most glamorous villain.

On Thursday, June 13, our body-positive, flute-playing queen performed at the 50th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony in honor of Missy Elliott’s induction. The following day, she shared photos from the special night on Instagram, and her outfit, featuring a teal and black gown and close-cropped red hair, is serving some major Under the Sea vibes.

Naturally, fans responded to the photos by demanding via Twitter that Disney offer their fave the role of Ursula. One person even proposed a cast list for the movie’s main roles, including Zendaya as Ariel (there have been rumors!), Lizzo as Ursula and Chris Evans as Prince Eric.

In the commotion, a new, equally amazing idea was offered up by @FountainPenDiva: Lizzo as Ariel. Into it.

Disney has yet to announce any casting decisions for the upcoming adaptation of the classic story, but the “poor unfortunate souls” behind the company's Twitter account will certainly be hearing from the internet should they not involve Lizzo in some way. I mean, come on — she even has Ursula’s evil laugh down to a science.
