Ed Sheeran brought his highly-anticipated “+ – = ÷ x Tour” to Detroit on Saturday night, and while fans expected to have an incredible experience, no one anticipated that he’d bring out a special guest that hails from their hometown.

About midway through his show at Ford Field on July 15, Sheeran, 32, explained that growing up in England, he was always fascinated by the city, particularly the artist that put them on the map—Eminem.

He then segued into a rendition of the rapper’s biggest hit single, “Lose Yourself,” accompanied by his band, noting that they had just practiced the song earlier that day, so “let’s see how it goes.”

However, shortly after the intro, the 50-year-old rap star himself emerged from beneath the stage to close out the verse as the crowd erupted in a roar of screams, shrieks, and applause.

Eminem’s appearance marked his first Detroit concert in years, so it’s no surprise it was so well received.

The British pop star then told the crowd that he wouldn't let Eminem “come on in Detroit and just do one song,” revealing that the surprising duo would sing another song.

“If you know the words to this one, you sing this one loud,” Sheeran told the crowd before launching into “Stan,” an Eminem classic, as the audience joined in, assisting the pop singer in belting out the chorus sung by Dido in the original as Eminem dived into the rap portion, without missing a beat despite the single debuting 23 years ago.

In a video of the incredible team-up captured by a fan in the audience and shared on Youtube, fans effectively lost it over the moment, with one noting, “Just another day in the life of the GOAT! You can barely hear Em over that insane crowd! Thank you Ed and Em!”

“Legendary comeback of Eminem,” another noted, as someone commented, “Shady’s back,” referring to the rapper’s alter-ego.

“i wasn't in the crowd but just by watching this i got GOOSEBUMPS, i can't image how EPIC and UNEXPECTED would've been there, definitely the best surprise someone could give to the crowd,” one said, as another fan couldn’t get over the love in the room, stating, “Notice Ed looking at Em, smiling in awe when he walks on stage and the crowd goes nuts!”

Sheeran and Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, previously collaborated on the 2017 song “River," which appears on the rapper's ninth solo studio album Revival, as well as a performance of “Stan” at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

It’s safe to say, this would’ve been one incredible performance to witness live, and there’s clearly plenty of demand for Eminem’s return to the stage if he ever decides to tour again.
