  • Garth Brooks performed at the 59th Presidential Inauguration.

  • The country music star sang “Amazing Grace,” and fans shared their emotional reactions online.

Forever using his platform to spread love, Garth Brooks agreed to sing at the 59th Presidential Inauguration honoring 46th President, Joe Biden, and the first-ever Madam Vice President, Kamala Harris.

“This is a great day in our household,” Garth said in a press conference announcing the news on Monday, January 18. “This is not a political statement, this is a statement of unity. This is history. And it’s an honor, this is how I get to serve this country.”

Dressed in a black shirt and coat, blue jeans, and his signature cowboy hat—which he removed for his performance—Garth sang “Amazing Grace” a capella, and even asked those in the crowd and at home to join in on the last verse.

There's no denying that his performance was a tearful moment that truly did permeate the room (and social media) with feelings of unity and joy.

“He was amazing!” one Instagram user exclaimed. “Now I’m waiting for the ‘He just lost a fan’ comments. If it’s anything like when the Dixie Chicks spoke up against Bush, and their careers were supposedly over. Then went on to have the year of their lives. Winning award after award. I say, bring it on! Where he lost you as a fan, he’s going to pick up a new one.”

“Loved it and got emotional—what a voice!” another wrote.

“Thank you Garth,” someone else added. “You’re showing true patriotism and unity back into the United States of America. I just love you even more.”

Twitter users also joined in the moment:

Following his performance, Garth walked up the stairs, greeting past presidents and their spouses, including the Obamas, Clintons, and the Bush family, with hugs and kisses—something that clearly illustrated his excitement, even in the midst of a pandemic.
