Country singer Darius Rucker knows a good thing when he hears it — and he heard it in Chapel Hart, the band that took America by storm this summer when they performed their original spin on Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” on America’s Got Talent. Now Rucker has teamed up with the harmonizing trio on his just-released track, "Ol’ Church Hymn."

“Like so many people, I was blown away when I saw Chapel Hart’s original response to ‘Jolene,’” said Rucker. “I was recording ‘Ol’ Church Hymn’ at the time and instantly had this vision of it becoming a duet once I heard their voices. I’m so thankful they said yes to singing on it with me, and I can’t wait to see the huge career they’re going to have.”

Hailing from Poplarville, Mississippi, Chapel Hart often features Danica Hart’s powerful lead vocals. In fact, the first time we saw the band team up with Rucker for a cover of Bonnie Raitt’s “Something to Talk About” on the AGT 2022 season finale, Danica went head-to-head with Rucker. However, in this new release, a gospel-inspired love song with the refrain “You soothe my soul like an ol’ church hymn,” it’s Rucker’s soulful baritone that takes centerstage, while Danica joins sister Devynn Hart and cousin Trea Swindle in the band's signature three-part harmony.

Fans were quick to approve on the morning of the release: “That is a beautiful song that takes me back to my Mississippi church,” commented one on Instagram. “I downloaded it first thing this morning. It really spoke to my heart and was what I needed this morning,” said other. On YouTube, another raved. “Darius Rucker always comes through with the best music. Smooth and soothing song. Great performance with Chapel Hart. Love them!”

Those who just discovered Chapel Hart this summer on AGT might be surprised to learn the collaboration with Rucker has been in the works for a whole year. On the morning of the release, Rucker posted a screenshot of the message he sent to the band in September 2021, with the caption: “It all started one year ago… “Ol’ Church Hymn”, featuring @chapelhartband is out NOW!! From a DM to your ears. Music is crazy sometimes!”

While Chapel Hart has been enjoying a meteoric rise since AGT — including three standing ovations at the Grand Ole Opry in September—the trio has been on the Nashville scene for a couple of years waiting for their big break. They were also named CMT’s Next Women of Country 2021. So it’s no surprise Rucker was ahead of curve when he asked the trio to collaborate last year. And now that Chapel Hart has “broken down the door,” as Simon Cowell said in July after their first AGT appearance, we can’t wait to see what’s next for the trio.
