  • Dancing With the Stars season 29 premiered last night.

  • Tyra Banks hosted her very first episode and received a “10 score” from longtime judge Len Goodman, who made a surprise virtual appearance.

  • Fans had mixed reactions about the former America’s Next Top Model host taking over Tom Bergeron’s and Erin Andrews’ spots.

Dancing With the Stars premiered last night with Tyra Banks taking the helm as the new host, and it was a delightful Monday-night mess. When the lights went on and the show began, Tyra strutted out in a stunning red gown before changing into a suit for the rest of the night. From there, stars like Nelly, Skai Jackson, Kaitlyn Bristowe, Monica Aldama, and Carole Baskin danced the night away.

In a surprise virtual appearance, longtime judge Len Goodman made Tyra tear up when he told her that he thought she earned a 10 for her hosting. That said, fans were way more divided about the new direction the show is headed without Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.

The good news is that the America’s Next Top Model and America’s Got Talent host absolutely handled the awkward moments, like her earring malfunction and when Carole didn’t respond to her question at all, like a pro.

But some fans just couldn’t get over her jokes or the thought of having one host.

And others thought Tyra made the night all about herself with her outfit choices.

But, like, it’s hard to blame her for wanting to celebrate landing a major hosting gig after a decades-long career of hard work and experience that led up to this moment!

In a recap of the episode, Cinemablend wrote that at times, Tyra “felt like a guest host who knew how to handle herself with a microphone in front of a camera but wasn’t quite a Dancing With the Stars expert with the level of banter and familiarity that Tom Bergeron brought to the stage on a weekly basis.”

Of course, Tyra still deserves time to get her footing! And as rocky as the first episode may have been, Tyra worked with what she had—fake audience, prerecorded cheering, and all.
