Fans Complain About Strange Physical Effects After Drinking Starbucks' New Olive Oil Coffee

Starbucks customers are very divided on the new drinks.

Starbucks has tried a lot of different drink styles over the years, experimenting with interesting flavors and ingredients, but their most recent venture has a lot of fans troubled—and their stomachs are feeling the same way.

The chain debuted its olive oil-infused Oleato coffee drinks on March 23, with many locations selling Oleato Golden Foam Cold Brew, Oleato Caffé Latte with Oatmilk, and Oleato Iced Shaken Espresso with Oatmilk and Toffeenut.

But since the launch, the new drinks have been getting mixed responses from fans and baristas, with some reporting that they experienced stomach issues after drinking them.

In the Starbucks subreddit, someone who claimed to work at a Starbucks location asked if people had tried the olive oil drinks, before saying, "Half the team tried it yesterday and a few ended up... Needing to use the restroom, if ya know what I mean.."

One user responded, "Caffeine is a stimulant for your bowels and oil a relaxant. So yeah wonderful idea by Starbucks."

A barista in the thread wrote, "person with stomach / bowel problems thanking you for the heads up."

More customers shared their experiences with the drinks on Twitter.

A customer said, "#Oleato — so far my stomach is gurgling and my throat is burning. Not sure if it’s the olive oil. @starbucks."

"That oleato drink from starbs makin my stomach speak," said another.

Someone else shared, "I got a free sample of Starbucks new olive oil coffee and it tastes exactly how you think it would, coffee should not be greasy."

One Starbucks customer joked (or not?), "Tried the olive oil coffee from starbucks this morning and just got fired for spending too much time in the bathroom."

Despite the reported upset stomachs, there are quite a few fans of the drink as well.

On Twitter, a customer who tried free samples of the olive oil drinks reviewed it, saying, "I picked the right day to work from Starbucks because they keep giving us samples for their new Oleato drinks. It’s basically coffee and cold foam that infused with extra virgin olive oil. It sounds weird but it’s delicious lol."

A different fan wrote, "Keep seeing everyone talk about how gross the olive oil drink from Starbucks is but I thought it was pretty good."

The Oleato drinks first launched in Italy at the Milan Roastery and Starbucks locations around the country, before expanding into the U.S. The drinks will reportedly arrive in Japan, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom later this year.
