We all have that favorite bakery filled with $7 croissants and $9 kouign-amanns. But there’s a chance that your new favorite pastry could cost you only $1.28. Who’s got the sale on craveable viennoiseries? None other than your trusty local Walmart.

The greatest weapon in a bargain foodie’s arsenal could be the single-serving section in the bread aisle in Walmart’s bakery. The Marketside-branded specialties include filled croissants and Danishes, but also doughnuts and muffins, all in the realm of $1.

The Marketside Spinach & Ricotta Pastry

Social media critic Morgan Chomps specializes in assessments of low-cost eats, many of them from Walmart. She recently started cooking with an air fryer and decided to try her new toy out to heat up a single-serving Walmart pastry. According to Walmart.com, the 330-calorie Marketside Spinach & Ricotta Pastry is “richly filled with a savory spinach and ricotta filling and a nice golden crust.”

In a TikTok video, Morgan Chomps heated the pastry first at 375 degrees F, then lowered her air fryer’s temperature to 350 degrees F and cooked for around five minutes. The result? Shattering crispness that the social media poster couldn’t help but share. “The crust was super flaky and buttery and soft,” she said. She added that the filling isn’t watery as some spinach products can be and features a nice balance of spinach to ricotta.

Other Walmart Pastries to Try

In a subsequent Instagram post, Morgan Chomps called the Marketside Spinach & Ricotta Pastry “hands-down one of the best baked goods, actually, best foods, I’ve ever had.” This led her to expand her horizons to another Walmart selection, the Marketside Gouda Cheese Pastry. “This delicious savory pastry is richly filled with an aged Gouda filling and topped with young Gouda to give it a nice golden crust,” says Walmart.

“I love the bite that the Gouda gives this, but then it’s also buttery,” said Morgan Chomps. However, she admitted that she liked the first of the filled croissants that she tried better, “Just because I love spinach.” The unexpectedly complex Gouda-filled pastry, however, might be a favorite of fans of sharper cheeses.

The only caveat? According to several comments on the video, not every Walmart has the pastries. It may take a bit of shopping around, but for a deal like this, budget foodies might need to do some searching.
