MTV cut away from the band during their performance, angering fans.

The MTV Video Music Awards were filled with amazing and shocking moments, including an intense performance by Italian rock band Måneskin

But fans of the group were very angry with how MTV chose to broadcast—or rather, not broadcast—their performance.

Throughout their act, the camera kept cutting away from the stage to the empty back seats inside Prudential Center in New Jersey, where the awards show took place, instead of focusing on Måneskin.

When the official MTV News Twitter account posted a GIF from the performance with the text, "We see you, @thisismaneskin! #VMAs," fans shared their irritation and confusion in the replies.

One fan wrote, "Did you? No one watching did. What the hell was that??" while another echoed the sentiment, saying, "I'm pissed! I waited all that time and they were on for a few seconds and barely on the screen??"

Another fan was very disappointed in MTV's treatment of the group, writing, "They would’ve been the most iconic performance this year if y’all didn’t sensor [sic] them."

A lot of people didn't understand why MTV kept cutting away from the group, believing that it was to censor lead singer Damiano David's risqué outfit, as he wore leather chaps and a black thong.

But it was likely an unexpected wardrobe malfunction that led to the strange camerawork choices.

Måneskin's bassist, Victoria De Angelis, was wearing a one-shouldered black Gucci outfit that left one breast exposed, though covered with a silver pasty.

After they started playing their song "Supermodel," it seems that De Angelis' shirt fell off of her shoulder, exposing her other breast, which did not have a pasty on it.

De Angelis continued to play and support her band through the performance, but MTV cut to show a random shot of the back of the stadium to avoid broadcasting the wardrobe malfunction, barely showing any of Måneskin's actual stage.

After hearing what happened, many fans were still irritated, pointing out that MTV could've just focused the camera on other people in the performance instead of De Angelis.

One fan said, "Why couldn’t you zoom in on the lead singer or the dancers or literally anything on the other side instead of just NOT SHOWING THEIR PERFORMANCE?! They DESERVED that air time !!! Y’all owe them and the fans a massive apology."

As of writing, MTV has not made any further comment on the censorship, and there was no mention of the wardrobe malfunction in the site's article recapping the performance.
