Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton fans were left pretty displeased by his New Year's Eve performance in Nashville, not because he or the band disappointed them, but because of how it was presented.

After it was revealed that the 47-year-old country crooner would perform during CBS' New Year's Eve Live: Nashville's Big Bash, viewers anticipated a one-of-a-kind live performance from the "Came Here to Forget" crooner. Instead, they were met with a pre-recorded production–something they wish was made clear from the get-go.

How'd they know it was pre-recorded? Well, Shelton was about to take the stage in Oklahoma for a special concert at Winstar World Casino in Thuckerville around the same time his Nashville set aired.

Shortly after the "live" set began, fans took to social media platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) to complain about what they saw as an attempt to get one over on viewers.

"So,@CBS just saw promo about New Year’s Eve celebration in Nashville live. List of celebs including Blake Shelton but he is performing in Oklahoma tonight. So will you be going live to his concert or are some segments pre recorded ? #NewYear2024," an X user wrote.

"Strange it’s 'live' when Blake Shelton is in Oklahoma doing a concert at a casino," one top-liked Instagram comment read, to which someone else replied, "agreed! I was at his his concert also! Can’t believe anything on tv anymore!"

"How is this live when Blake is in Oklahoma doing a concert at Winstar tonight?" another follower asked, leading a different fan to share, "Blake told us at the concert tonight him and trace recorded this in october."

For the CBS New Year's Eve special, Shelton was joined by Trace Adkins, and the two treated fans to new renditions of tunes they've previously performed together, including "Hillbilly Bone" and "Hell Right."

Though many viewers were still pleased with the duo's set, the fact that it wasn't live but still billed as such isn't so easy for them to ignore.

Others praised his actual live performance at Winstar, with one fan sharing a video of the country star performing 'Goodbye Time,' noting, "It’s been so long since Blake sang this live. He did so so beautifully - one of the very few who can give this song justice."
