Eggnog is so associated with the holidays that most of us make it or drink only between Thanksgiving and New Year's. The thick, creamy, spiced drink made of eggs and milk and/or cream—with or without booze—is a must at holiday parties or quiet nights around the fireplace.

The taste of eggnog is so beloved that eggnog itself is now not just a drink but a flavor or ingredient in other foods. There’s eggnog cheesecake, eggnog French toast, eggnog fudge, eggnog bread, and eggnog cookies to satiate our craving for the flavors of the drink.

Now Pepperidge Farm is embracing the love of eggnog and adding its essence to one of its popular distinctive cookies, too.

Adding an Eggnog Vibe to Traditional Chessman Cookies

Chessman has been a favorite Pepperidge Farm cookie for decades. They’re buttery shortbread cookies that melt in your mouth and are pretty perfect as is (or mixed with banana pudding). But, Pepperidge Farm is switching up these cookies for the winter holidays.

For the first time, Chessmen will take on an eggnog twist. Pepperidge Farm is calling it a modern take, “expertly balancing the rich, creamy, and spicy warm flavors with the timeless buttery taste of the beloved Chessmen cookie.” Rather than the chess-inspired designs of the traditional variety, the holiday version is adorned with shapes such as trees, wreaths, and candy canes. The Holiday Nog Chessmen packaging is distinctively meant to invoke December—it’s red with holly leaves and berries.

These new cookies join the current holiday lineup of Pepperidge Farm cookies that include Mint Brussels, Linzer Snowball, and Milano Slices Peppermint.  All of the holiday varieties are starting to roll out at grocery stores now and will be available throughout the season, while supplies last.

But Pepperidge Farm isn’t stopping with one new festive product. There’s another one inspired by a holiday movie that turns 20 years old this year and now squarely qualifies for classic status (although many people already consider it a classic).

Goldfish Flavored With One of the Four Major Food Groups

"We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup,” Buddy the Elf, played by Will Ferrel, tells his family in the movie “Elf.”

That one sentence has given many a fan of the movie the excuse to eat as many sweets as possible during the holidays. It’s also launched Elf-inspired holiday editions of breakfast cereal, coffee creamer, and Icees.

And Pepperidge Farm is getting in on the fun by adding its own edible “Elf” product: Goldfish Elf Maple Syrup Flavored Grahams.

With shapes inspired by the movie such as Buddy’s hat and a jug of maple syrup, these treats have the elf-approved flavors of brown sugar, butter, caramel, and vanilla. The limited-time Goldfish will be on store shelves starting November 1, but those who want to make sure they get their hands on a bagful (or three) as part of the snack spread for the annual "Elf" viewing party can buy them online starting October 17 at shop.goldfishsmiles.com.

With the release of these two seasonally-inspired treats, and Halloween within reach, we must admit; the holidays are coming!
