As leaves begin to hint at tones of gold and signs for the local pumpkin patch are hung on fence posts, another seasonal bounty begins to fill orchards and farm stands: fresh apples. Is there anything better?

In-season apples—with their firm bite and layered sweetness—yield some of the most beautiful desserts to ever fill an autumn table. Old-Fashioned Apple Dapple Cake, for instance, pairs Galas with toffee-like caramel sauce. Apple Spice Muffins with Oat Streusel pack a warm apple-pie-punch at breakfast and feature an apple cider glaze. And the show-stopping Apple Cardamom Babka Wreath marries the best parts of September and October with a stunning braided bread. Rivaled only by the tomatoes and fresh garden produce of a Southern summer, fall in the South is one of the most delicious times of year.

To celebrate the season, North Carolina-based Krispy Kreme has brought back a beloved apple doughnut dessert that folks wait in anticipation for each year: handmade Apple Fritters.

The sweet pillow-like pastry is full of real apple chunks just like any good fritter should be, as well as swirled filling with cinnamon. Krispy Kreme then glazes their Apple Fritters “to perfection,” as they say.

Apple Fritters are available now at participating locations across the South and will only be in the doughnut case for a limited time, just as our apple season comes and goes. Don’t miss out on picking up this sweet treat individually or in a four-pack. What better way to thank your local teachers than replacing their apple with an apple fritter?

In addition to this seasonal favorite, Krispy Kreme is slinging their mouth-watering fall doughnut lineup through October 8 which includes the Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Swirl Doughnut, Pumpkin Spice Maple Pecan Doughnut, Pumpkin Spice Original Glazed Doughnut, and Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut. You can even pick up Pup’kin Spice Dog “Doughnuts” for your furry friend.

Now, if you’d really like to impress guests around your table this fall, you can try out our Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding with Butter Bourbon Sauce and sub in chunks of the doughnut chain’s Apple Fritters for the Original Glazed. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime dessert experience (that only takes 30 minutes of hands-on time) we think you oughta try.
