Famous Florida Bald Eagle And New Mate Welcome Two Eggs

The high-flying drama continues in Southwest Florida Eagle Cam’s 12th season.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have eggs!

Southwest Florida Eagle Cam’s bald eagle stars are now the proud parents of two eggs. M15’s new mate, F23, laid the first egg on Friday evening and a second roughly 72 hours later on Monday afternoon. They’re the newly mated couple’s first clutch.

“Just months ago we were crossing our fingers for a successful mate/bond and now we have two eggs," Southwest Florida Eagle Cam wrote on Facebook.

The feathered couple is currently in the first few days of incubation, a process that takes an average of 35-38 days.

“Both parents will diligently take turns incubating their young by maintaining the necessary 99-degrees F the embryos need for proper development,” Ginnie Pritchett McSpadden, co-founder of Southwest Florida Eagle Cam, explained in a statement. “They will continue to nurture them until they feel movement and the chick scratches the surface of the egg to break out. Hopefully just before the New Year.”

Pritchett McSpadden’s family has been hosting the live feed from their Fort Myers property since 2012. Bird lovers tuned in that first year to watch female Harriet and her then-mate Ozzie 24/7. Harriet took up with M15 shortly after Ozzie’s death in 2015. Harriet and M15 were together for eight years before the female’s disappearance (and presumed death) in early February 2023.

With Harriet missing, thousands tuned in to watch M15 raise E21 and E22 on his own. Despite the odds, M15 succeeded, and both eaglets fledged in March. After a few failed romantic endeavors, M15 returned to the beloved nest with F23 in October.
