Family Uses Coronavirus Isolation to Recreate Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean Ride in Their House

This Disney-loving family won’t let theme park closures get in between them and a swashbuckling good time.

During their period of coronavirus self-isolation, the Thornock household went to great lengths to recreate the Pirates of the Caribbean boat ride inspired by the Johnny Depp films. Their incredible DIY version has sword fights, fake skeletons, beer-guzzling pirates, and even a prison-guarding dog.

"My mom saw a homemade Splash Mountain video that Chip and Co. posted," Brin Thornock, the family's second-oldest daughter, told Syfy Wire. "She thought it was funny and shared it on Facebook. Her friends all commented, 'We totally see you guys making one.' So, we took it as a challenge. Pirates of the Caribbean is one of our favorite rides."

"We already had some pirate stuff from Halloween and such," Brin explained. "We are very familiar with the ride, so we picked out some of the key parts and brought it to life using items laying around the house."

A video (above) of the Thornock’s impressive recreation was posted on Twitter Friday, and immediately blew up. The post currently has more than 90,000 likes, nearly 31,000 retweets, and upwards of 1.7 million views.

Brin told Syfy Wire that her family is shocked by the video’s reception.

"We figured we would just have our friends and family get a kick out of it," she admitted. "It only took us about an hour-and-a-half to put everything together. We shot it on our phones. and I edited in my phone as well!"

She also offered some good advice for surviving this period of isolation, "Just enjoy your time together as a family," Brin said. "Get creative!"
