Family First Men’s Fall 2023

Welcome back to school! Here was a sophomore guy confident enough to dare with fashion but still far from graduation day’s realization that it’s time for a grown-up wardrobe.

The fall Family First collection nodded to the American collegiate theme, with polo players sporting their private clubs’ T-shirts tucked inside baggy pants; the hockey champ just off the ice rink, his shin pads still on, donning a graphics-bearing hoodie under a varsity jacket, and the underdog with shaggy hair in a worn-in cardigan and paisley skater boy pants.

Toying with the iconography of sports and the preppy look, creative director Giorgio Mallone got inventive at times, adding pleated skirts for men and women, often worn over baggy pants; handkerchief hem skirts in shirting fabrics, and checkered scarves knotted at the waist paired with shearling jackets and plain gray hoodies.

Knitwear was among the standouts — with fuzzy kid mohair argyle-patterned cardigans and dégradé crewnecks in pastel pinks and lilacs — as was tailoring, with a maxi corduroy white number that ticked at least two of the seasonal trends seen at Pitti Uomo.
