Family Captures Perfect Video Showing Whales Doing 'Synchronized Swimming' Near Cape Cod

An estimated six million people visit Cape Cod yearly with whale watching as one of the main attractions. The best season to see these ocean animals is between mid-May and October. In the warmer months, visitors are most likely going to see humpback whales, although there are other whale species and dolphins they might see.

Some visitors are luckier than others when whale watching. One family, in particular, caught a very special moment of three humpback whales ‘synchronized swimming.’ The video, shared on TikTok by @bostonglobe, is absolutely incredible.

Talk about filming at the right time and in the right place. This is a core memory that no one will forget. Not only is seeing this in person so rare, but actually capturing it on video is unbelievable.

As it turns out, this family was in Massachusetts on a fishing trip for the Dad’s 59th birthday, according to an article from The Washington Post. The whales must’ve known they were celebrating because seeing something like this was unusual. One marine biologist said in the article, “Seeing three whales in a row synchronized like that is a once-in-a-lifetime sight. She added that the triple breach was breathtaking. We would do anything to see this in real life!

Another special moment happened off the coast of Cape Cod earlier this year. About 60 to 70 North Atlantic Right Whales were spotted, which is rare since these animals are endangered. They have been listed on the endangered list since 1970 and there are only about 350 of these animals left.
