HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Children and families gathered to celebrate and honor the moms in Hillsborough County ahead of Mother’s Day this weekend.

On Wednesday, children performed and presented at the event located at 1002 East Palm Avenue in Tampa, hosted by the Children’s Board Family Resource Centers.

The performances, which took place in front of the “Honor to Mothers of the World (Honramos Dia de las Madres)” sculpture created by Cuban artist T. Ramos Blanco, “highlighted the importance of nurturing and supporting the well-being of children and families.”

Community leaders and families attended to honor mothers from all walks of life and to reflect on the county’s diverse community.

The sculpture, created in 1930, was donated to the city of Tampa on Mother’s Day in 1948. After being removed in 2018 from the German American Club, it was relocated by art conservators to its new spot.
