'The Fall of the House of Usher' Is Almost Certainly Not Getting a Season 2, Sorry

Mike Flanagan's specific brand of spine-chilling, sometimes cozy, and always heartbreaking horror has me (and Netflix) in a chokehold. I look forward to the next new ghost story every year! But once you've demolished every member I mean episode of The Fall of the House of Usher... what's next?

Here's what you need to know about The Fall of the House of Usher season 2 or whatever is next from Mike Flanagan and his merry band of spooksters.

Will there be a season 2 of The Fall of the House of Usher?

I highly, sincerely doubt we'll get that specifically. While there has not been a word either way from the streamer, I don't think there's meant to be a question about renewal because The Fall of the House of Usher is a miniseries. It tells a complete story, adapting several Edgar Allen Poe short stories all within one big project. Without giving too much away, how could it even go on after that? I suppose a second season could take down a new family... but since this is an adaptation, that would have to be a totally original story. It's not even categorized as "season 1" on Netflix.

Notably, none of Mike Flanagan's shows on Netflix (The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and now The Fall of the House of Usher) have had second seasons–and the only one that has been "canceled" officially is The Midnight Club. What he likes to do is tell a new story in a miniseries format with a lot of the same cast members, like a repertory theatre company or a loose American Horror Story.

So what's the next Mike Flanagan Netflix series going to be??

Well, the auteur's time at Netflix is over, at least for the time being. In December 2022, Mike signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios, per Deadline, to develop shows for that streaming network instead. The Fall of the House of Usher is his Netflix finale. What a way to go out, if you ask me!

But immediately up next, even before the untitled Amazon Studios projects, Mike will adapt Stephen King's novella The Life of Chuck into a film starring Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill. I couldn't be more excited for that, honestly! And speaking of Stephen King, Mike Flanagan and his production company Intrepid Pictures also have the rights to and are developing The Dark Tower series. That may or may not be an Amazon Studios thing, but still, the point is there are so many things for fans of The Fall of the House of Usher to look forward to that you'll forget you ever wanted a season 2.
