Disco has made its comeback this year, with a modern, maximalist twist. From '70s music to groovy clothing, the disco theme has transitioned to a trendy decor idea, blended with y2k fashions. From planters and candles to string lights and wall decor—if you want to catch Gen Z's eye, the reflective gleam of a disco ball guarantees it pretty much every time.

The disco ball's resurrection originated partially from the disco cowgirl aesthetic that's taken over social media in recent years: Inspired by country singers like Dolly Parton and Shania Twain, this style mixes cow print and leather with vibrant shades of pink and lots of sparkles. The unapologetically girly look quickly became a popular option for bachelor and birthday party themes, clothing pieces, and home decor—and has continued to prove it's more than a TikTok trend.

With fall in full swing and the disco aesthetic still shining, it only makes sense that this year's seasonal decor takes on a groovy feel. And there's no better way to add a funky touch to your classic fall pieces by swapping orange pumpkins with DIY, disco-inspired pumpkins.

How to DIY a Disco Ball Pumpkin

Classic Disco Ball Look

This glamorous look is easy to recreate at home using a faux pumpkin and adhesive disco tiles, like the one shown in this TikTok posted by @orangegrovehome. Depending on the look you want, you can place the tiles next to each other to achieve a true disco ball look, or arrange them further apart to create a pattern or design. If you choose to cover the entire pumpkin, place the tiles individually or attach in small groups in order to wrap around the pumpkin's natural curves and ridges. Paint the stem a metallic silver to match.

The creator advised that attaching all of the tiles to your pumpkin takes some time (depending on the size of pumpkin)—but don't give up.

"[It's] kind of like Tetris," she says. "It really is a labor of love. It takes a little bit of time to get it right, but the results are so worth it."

Try Different Colors

The disco aesthetic is known for its bright colors and fun patterns, so don't be afraid to try a rainbow-like range of disco-themed pieces this fall. Gold, orange, purple, and red disco tiles all match the changing shades of the season.

Deck Out Other Pieces in Disco

Disco-themed decor isn't limited to just pumpkins! Consider adding disco tiles to your other fall and Halloween pieces like skulls, candy dishes, cauldrons, and creepily-cute ghosts. Use the same technique as with the pumpkins, cutting the tile strips apart and attaching them to your item in small sections. Display your creation as a centerpiece in your home all season long—and beyond, if you prefer to keep the spooky party going throughout the holidays.
