Faith briefs: Thanksgiving dinner volunteers needed, Crestline church renamed

Volunteers needed for community Thanksgiving dinner

SHELBY — The First Lutheran Church of Shelby is pleased to announce that it will once again host a community-wide Thanksgiving dinner this Nov. 23. This free annual event traditionally serves several hundred people in the church's social hall from noon to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

This event cannot succeed without the help of the many volunteers that help prepare and serve the food that day and the countless donations it receives to assist in this undertaking, according to Gaye Shira, event chairperson. Thus, the church is actively soliciting volunteers to work that day along with donations of turkey, ham, pies and other traditional Thanksgiving food items.

Anyone interested in helping or wish to make a monetary or food donation to help offset the cost may contact Shira at the church office, 33 Broadway Street in Shelby, or call 419-347-7675.

Praise Family Church welcomed with ribbon cutting

CRESTLINE — The Galion-Crestline Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new name of Praise Family Church (formerly Tabernacle of Praise), 6480 Lower Leesville Road in Crestline.

Paster Joshua Cole and the Praise Family congregation welcomed the public to their morning worship service prior to the Sept. 17 ribbon cutting. A potluck lunch followed.

“Our new name, Praise Family Church, is a refreshing of who we are,” explains Cole. “We have all worked hard to begin this new chapter of our church.”
