Shelby church seeks donations for two holiday efforts

SHELBY — First Lutheran Church at 33 Broadway Ave. in Shelby is still in need of some items for its community Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving Day and its Christmas cracker drive.

A donor has graciously provided all of the turkeys, but the church is still in need of hams, cash and volunteers.

Those who want to help can contact Gaye Shira at 429-545-2277 or the church office at 419-347-7675.

The Christmas cracker drive continues until Nov. 17. The goal is 250 boxes.

Anyone who would like to donate a box of crackers can leave their donation at the church on Sundays or at the church office between 9 a.m. and noon on Monday, Thursday or Friday.

First Congregational Church to hold Holiday Bazaar

Holiday Bazaar at Mansfield's First Congregational Church at the corner of Millsboro and Marion Avenue will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday (half price all day).

There will be a variety of new, gently-used and vintage Thanksgiving and Christmas items, including angels, wreaths, Santas, snowmen, table arrangements, trees, vintage glassware, holiday supplies and much more at affordable prices — great for gifts or holiday decorating.

The church is handicapped-accessible with an elevator.

Swiss steak dinner at Church of the Brethern

Richland Church of the Brethren, 786 Linn Road in Mansfield, will hold a swiss steak dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Freewill offerings will be accepted to benefit area families in need. Please call the church at 419-747-4392 on the day of the event for more information.

Ashland County church to host turkey supper

SULLIVAN — First Congregational Church, 503 U.S. 224 in Sullivan, will hold its annual turkey supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. This drive-thru supper includes a full menu. The cost is a donation.

Special Mass in Toledo

TOLEDO — The Diocese of Toledo will hold "Mass for Giving Thanks to God for the Gift of Human Life" at noon Monday at Saint Francis de Sales Chapel, 501 Cherry St., Toledo. Bishop Daniel E. Thomas will be the principal celebrant and homilist.

The special Mass is being held as voters Tuesday decide the fate of a reproductive rights issue in Ohio known as Issue 1.

Big Bands and All That Jazz Society to host concert at Ashland church

ASHLAND — The Ted Buehrer Octet will perform at 7 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church, 1425 King Road in Ashland. Buehrer, a trumpet instructor at Kenyon College, and his octet will play original compositions based on standard tunes. Featured alongside Buehrer will be Tom Reed (alto sax), Eric Snyder (tenor sax), Damian Boyd (trombone), Andrew Clarkson (guitar), McCray Martin (piano), Paul Martin (bass) and Cary Dachtyl (drums).

Admission is free but donations are accepted.

Guest speaker at All Souls on Sunday

BELLVILLE — All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church of Bellville, 25 Church St., will welcome the Reed Richmond as guest speaker at 10:30 a.m. Sunday for a presentation titled “Here There Be Dragons."
