Netflix might have slipped on the charts of stock market, but its clasp on the charts of viewership is anything but slippery. Its latest limited series Hold Tight bears testimony to this.
In August 2018, Netflix signed a five-year exclusive deal with the acclaimed writer of crime fiction Harlan Coben. Under this deal, Netflix would adapt 14 books — current and upcoming — from Coben into limited series in English and foreign languages. Coben would serve as an executive producer on all projects that would premiere on Netflix worldwide.
Netflix's cherished collaboration with Coben has proven quite fertile as it has yielded seven miniseries till now with the seventh one debuting some days ago. Interestingly, the language of choice was different for each adaptation.
First to hatch was The Stranger in English, then The Woods in Polish, then came The Innocent in Spanish, followed by Gone for Good in French. Next was Stay Close in English, stalked by Hold Tight in Polish. These 7 miniseries have covered most of the widely spoken European languages.
The latest fruit from Coben's tree flowering in Netflix's garden is Hold Tight. It's a mystery crime thriller that unwraps over six episodes to finally reveal the depth of decay and decadence that has set in the modern society. The series is a Polish production and was filmed in Polish with subtitles or dubbing for English speakers.
The show starts with a missing 18-year-old boy whose body is later discovered among dumpsters. One of his friends is unusually affected by this tragedy, and soon he too goes missing. This obliges his smothering and controlling mother to set out on the road of investigation.
The show is full of twists and turns and will keep you on the edge of your seat. There are few parallel stories in motion, and it may initially distract you from the central mystery, but the air of suspense that pervades the series shall compel you to keep watching.
