Fabuloso Cleaner Recalled Over Bacteria Risk

The recall affects multiple Fabuloso product lines sold in-store and online at various nationwide retailers.

Fabuloso voluntarily recalled some of its popular household and professional multi-purpose cleaners on Wednesday.

In a statement shared on the company's website, Fabuloso revealed that during the recent manufacturing process of nearly 5 million bottles, there was an oversight involving what it calls "intended levels of a preservative" that were not added to specific batches.

The company explained that without enough preservatives, there is a risk of Pseudomonas bacteria growth. Exposure to the bacteria can lead to severe infection for those with weakened immune systems, underlying lung conditions, and external medical devices, per the official statement.

Of the 4.9 million bottles produced before the error was corrected (between December 14, 2022 and January 23, 2023), the company believes 3.9 million–or 80 percent–were never released for sale.

However, the bottles that were released were sold in-store and online for $1 to $11 at nationwide retailers, including Walmart, The Home Depot, Sam's Club, Amazon, Dollar General, and Family Dollar, among other nationwide retailers.

The recall includes 17 UPCs from the below product lines:

  • Fabuloso® Multi-Purpose Cleaner 2X Concentrated Formula, Lavender Scent

  • Fabuloso® Multi-Purpose Cleaner 2X Concentrated Formula, Refreshing Lemon Scent

  • Fabuloso® Multi-Purpose Cleaner 2X Concentrated Formula, Passion of Fruits Scent

So far, no infections or complications from using the product have been reported. Still, the company asked consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Fabuloso Multi-Purpose Cleaner products and contact Colgate-Palmolive Company for a full refund or a free replacement product.

To receive a refund or replacement, consumers should take a picture of the product’s UPC and lot code, fill out the consumer recall form at www.fabulosorecall.com, and dispose of the product in its container with household trash–but do not empty the product before disposal.
