Fable & Mane's HoliRoots Hair Oil Is Working Wonders on My Dry, Fragile Hair

As someone with fine hair that gets greasy and weighed down easily, hair oils have never been my jam. The ones I've tried in the past have been either too heavy or too oily, and on top of that, I never found them to do much for my dry, breakage-prone hair anyway. Then I was introduced to Fable & Mane's HoliRoots Hair Oil, and this all changed. Much to my surprise, it was neither too heavy nor too oily — and more importantly, in just a matter of days, my hair was looking better than it had in months.

It felt better, too: softer, silkier, and even a bit stronger. Just a week into using it, I noticed a lot less shedding, as well as less fallout in the shower. So of course I had to know more. As it turns out, Fable & Mane was founded by two Indian siblings — Akash Mehta and Nikita Mehta — who both wanted to share their amazing experience with Ayurvedic hair oiling with the world. The brand currently consists of four products, though it's safe to say the HoliRoots Hair Oil is the hero so far.

Infused with a nourishing blend of castor, olive fruit, jojoba, grape seed, and sesame oils, it intensely moisturizes the hair and soothes the scalp at the same time. What's more: Despite being packed with oils, the formula somehow remains featherlight and non-greasy, which is a game-changer in my book. Additionally, it contains dashmool and ashwagandha, two popular ingredients in Ayurveda that have been used in Indian hair-care formulas for ages.

The brand also puts a major emphasis on scalp massages, so whenever I've been applying the oil (roughly every other day), I've made this part of my routine, too. I simply use the pads of my fingertips to apply medium, even pressure to my scalp, moving in small circles until I've reached every spot on my head. I try to do this for at least five minutes, and while I can't personally speak to its benefits for the hair, I will say I always feel incredibly calm and centered afterward.

It turns out massaging your scalp can be beneficial for the hair, though. As Los Angeles–based dermatologist Jessica Wu explains, "Studies have shown that scalp massage can increase hair thickness by stretching the living hair follicle cells and stimulating them to produce thicker, individual hairs."

I can't say that I've seen any significant increase in thickness or growth, but to be fair, I've only been using the oil for a little over a month. That being said, the benefits I've gotten from using it so far — softer, silkier hair that feels noticeably stronger — is enough to make me loyal to it for life.
