Eyeko’s Bespoke Mascara Gives You the Lashes of Your Dreams

The only time I’ve really loved my eyelashes was this past summer, after I laid on a table like a mummy for over two hours and had 200 lash extensions placed on each of my eyes. I went without mascara for close to three months and received endless compliments every time I blinked. But then the day came when the last of my lashes fell into my sink, and I went back to my mascara routine. That routine involves me picking up a random tube out of my makeup drawer, swiping it on, and heading to work. No more compliments. I hadn’t found the right mascara formula, despite having a seemingly endless supply at the Yahoo Beauty office. Nothing was giving me the length and curl I was after.

When I read about Eyeko’s Bespoke Mascara Bar, currently available at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City and at locations throughout London and Asia, I jumped at the chance to try it out. If I could put together the perfect brush with the perfect formula, there was no way I wouldn’t have perfect lashes — right? “The whole point of creating this Bespoke Bar is making something custom to what you’re looking for,” says Neil Scibelli, a Mascara Editor in Chief with Eyeko. “We get women all the time who say they use three different brushes with one formula. We try to downsize and pick the right one to eliminate those extra steps.”

The service begins with selecting from 10 different brushes. Some of them are already part of the existing pre-packaged Eyeko mascaras and the rest are custom for the Bespoke service. The brand plans to introduce three additional brush options in 2016. I initially chose three brushes to try, and combed each through my lashes to see which felt the best, then narrowed it down to two. Scibelli reassured me that most people go through multiple brushes before they find the best one for them. “It’s really supposed to fit your lifestyle,” he says. “If you know what you’re looking for, it’s our job to make it happen.”

The next step is picking a formula. The Bespoke service offers 11 formulas, including a special oil-free, natural formula especially for women with lash extensions. “We have everything from a conditioning, nourishing formula to a waterproof formula. We talk to the client about what they are looking for in a formula and match it to what we have,” Scibelli explains. For me, he recommended a lengthening formula packed with vitamins and antioxidants to help promote lash growth (he understood how much I was missing my extensions). Then he applied it using a different brush on each eye. It was up to me to make the final decision. I opted for a funky looking brush made up of three spheres of bristles that made my lashes look stupid long and seriously curled.

Once I had made my brush and formula decisions, Scibelli ducked away and a few minutes later appeared with my bespoke mascara in a pretty box complete with a regal looking Eyeko seal and my initials on the side. Who knew the mascara of my dreams was only $45 and 20 minutes away?
