If you're the over-the-top one in your friend group, I can think of no better option for a Halloween costume this year (or any year, really) than a unicorn. Although it’s absolutely acceptable to walk around covered in rhinestones and leaving a trail of glitter dust in your path any time of the year (you do you), Halloween is the perfect occasion to really embrace your love for attention and all things sparkly and holographic. So, I’ve done you a solid and rounded up the best unicorn makeup looks on Instagram so you can get inspired to live your best mythical creature life come October.

1. Unicorn Makeup Landscape

This masterpiece would be a hard look to recreate, but it’s too good not to at least try. Only true artists will be able to capture the light fluffiness of these clouds, the crisp lines of the rainbow, and the incredible detail work of this tiny flying unicorn, but shoot your shot anyway. In the great words of Bob Ross, “We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.”

2. Pastel Unicorn Makeup

The pastel and iridescent makeup is totally fun, yes, but the real star of this look is the believable horn. This makeup artist used InstaMorph Moldable Plastic and Mehron SynWax to adhere it in place.

3. Pretty Pegasus Makeup

Don’t have a horn handy? No worries! A pegasus is like a unicorn, but it has angelic wings instead. For a more ethereal Halloween look like this, go with a white cat-eye makeup.

4. Rainbow Unicorn Eye Makeup

You might look at this eye makeup and instantly feel overwhelmed because you wouldn’t know where to begin, but don’t worry, we gotchu. Slide to the right of this Halloween Instagram post to see this look broken down into five totally doable steps.

5. Unicorn Eye Mask Makeup

Don't stress if your makeup skills are not the best. You don’t need to work at MAC to pull off a convincing Halloween unicorn. This otherwise simple look features eye embellishments made from holographic paper.

6. Unicorn Cut-Crease Makeup

I’m pretty sure unicorns only wear cut creases that look like this. Even if you’re not particularly good at this technique, which features sharp, crisp line down the middle of your eyelid, that’s okay. There’s nothing a little glitter can’t hide.

7. Unicorn Contour Makeup

With a mane game this strong, you know you have to bold with the Halloween makeup. This artist took the concepts of highlighting and contouring and bumped them up roughly 1,000 percent to reach this level of boldness. To get this look, replace your illuminating powder with straight-up chunky glitter and use the darkest shade you have to cut those cheekbones for the most intense contrast between the two.

8. Unicorn Prism Highlight

This is one of those Halloween makeup looks that you appreciate the more you look at it. After you get over the perfectly placed star-shape glitter, you’ll be obsessed with the prism effect of the highlighter on her cheek.

9. Unicorn Brow Makeup

It would be easy to get lost in the rhinestones and totally forget to embellish your eyebrows, but that’d be a missed opportunity if you did. This unicorn Halloween makeup look wouldn’t be the same without the two-tone pink and purple brows.

10. Unicorn Tears Makeup

No unicorn Halloween makeup look is complete without unicorn tears. This artist used chunky glitter from Bulk Glitters to create the sparkly under eye, because unicorns don’t cover up with concealer—they enhance with sparkles.

11. Moody Unicorn Makeup

It’d be stereotypical to assume that all unicorns are into pastels and rainbows. This chic unicorn Halloween makeup, which features a deep lip, a smoky eye, and gold foil details, is not what you’d expect, and that’s what makes it so perfect.

12. Celestial Unicorn Makeup

Part galaxy girl, part unicorn—this Halloween look proves that when it comes to mythical makeup, there really are no rules.

13. Dark Unicorn Makeup

If you’re more into the scary Halloween costumes than you are the cutesy ones, might I suggest this spooky unicorn?

14. Monochromatic Unicorn Makeup

The cool thing about unicorn Halloween costumes is that you can incorporate every color of the rainbow, or you can stick with just one. This look features an overload of pink–brows, highlight, eyes, lips—but somehow it works.

15. Simple Unicorn Makeup

Even if all you have is a few rhinestones, you can make this Halloween makeup work. Adhere some around your temples and along your collarbone and you’re set. As long as you have a horn, everyone will know what you are.

16. Understated Unicorn Makeup

Though it would be fun, you don’t actually have to dip yourself in rainbow paint to dress up as a unicorn this Halloween. This makeup artist framed her face and cheek bones with little twinkle stars and clear rhinestones, which is all she really needed to pull off a convincing unicorn makeup look.

17. Rainbow-Unicorn Smokey-Eye Makeup

Swap your usual browns, blacks, and taupes for greens, pinks, and purples, and you have yourself a unicorn-approved smokey eye for Halloween.

18. Rainbow-Unicorn Brows

If you have a rainbow wig, you gotta match it with some ombré rainbow brows. Instead of your usual brow powders, use colorful eyeshadows to fill in your arches instead and blend the colors together with a spoolie brush. The result? The coolest unicorn Halloween makeup that doesn't feel too extra.

19. Edgy Unicorn Makeup

If you want to add a little more edge to your otherwise bright and colorful unicorn Halloween makeup look, turn to black and gold paint. Add strokes, drips, and accents to your horn, under your eyes, and over your upper body.

20. Mythical Unicorn Makeup

A little bit ice queen, a dash of mermaid, part pegasus, and a hint of unicorn—this Halloween makeup look could work for pretty much any mythical creature.
