Do you remember Extreme Makeover: Home Edition? Back in the day, it brought the home renovation craze to network television, running on ABC from 2003-2012. At the time, the show was hosted by the extremely energetic (and occasionally plagued with scandal) Ty Pennington, who, each episode, would assist in the complete renovation of a deserving family’s home. But now that the show is getting rebooted, they’ve selected a new lead: Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

The new EM:HE (is that a cool show nickname or what) will feature Ferguson as the host, introducing us to the worthy families who are getting their houses renovated, and shouting out the classic reveal slogan: “Move That Bus!”

This iteration of the show is moving from ABC to HGTV, with an initial run of ten episodes slated to debut in 2020. That means Ferguson, Broadway darling and long-time star of Modern Family (which is ending after its 11th season, just in time for Ferguson’s new gig), will have plenty of time to binge-watch the old series and brush up on his reality home renovation hosting chops.

That being said, this isn’t Ferguson’s first hosting gig. He was the host of the 2011 Writer’s Guild Awards, a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance, has presented awards at the Tony’s, hosted a James Beard Awards TV special, and has been a guest co-host on both The View and Live! With Kelly.

He’s also no stranger to philanthropy. The actor has been a longtime advocate for LGBTQ causes (he and his husband used their engagement announcement to raise funds to support marriage equality), and he’s also partnered with Feeding America in the past to raise awareness of food bank shortages. Basically, he’s a pretty great guy, and we’re excited to see him working with deserving families to make their dreams come true.

Combine all of this with his love for interior design (his home was showcased in Architectural Digest in 2018), and it sounds like a winning combo.

While the new episodes of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition won’t be airing until 2020, HGTV will be showing 100 of the original episodes in the lead up to the premiere. It sounds like Ferguson isn’t the only one with some epic binge-watching in their future!
