Mar. 26—Gardeners can learn how to put medieval gardening wisdom to modern use during a free program at 6:30 p.m. April 17, at the Headlands Community Center, 9096 Lake Overlook Drive in Mentor.

Shanon Sterringer will talk about planting medieval herb gardens rooted in the tradition of Hildegard of Bingen. The program will be hosted by Mentor Public Library.

Hildegard of Bingen was a philosopher, composer and natural scientist, and Sterringer has written two books about her. Sterringer has presented to the Herb Society of America and Western Reserve Herb Society.

Her talk is open to all, but due to limited space, registration is required. Sign up at www.mentorpl.org or by calling the library at 440-257-2000.

Meanwhile, people can get free vegetable, flower and herb seeds from Mentor Public Library's Seed Library. Patrons can peruse the collection at the Main Branch and check out up to 15 packets of seeds per season.
