Edwin Hodge and Steven Williams in 'FBI: Most Wanted.'

There's a very special guest on the way in FBI: Most Wanted's next episode. On Tuesday's new segment, fans will finally get to meet the father of Ray Cannon (Edwin Hodge) as veteran character actor Steven Williams joins the show in this role.

The episode's title, "Footsteps," is a nod to the relationship Ray has long had with his father, who was one of the few Black agents in the Federal Bureau of Investigation during his youth and has thus inspired his son's career. However, audiences haven't gotten to actually see the character until now.

Williams makes his debut as Ray Sr. in the episode, and Parade spoke to Edwin Hodge about what fans can expect from seeing their relationship play out on screen.

"He shows up, and we find him in a situation that Ray has to get him out of. It could lead to Ray having doubts about his father and his history," Hodge teased. However, their very tight bond will still shine through, as Hodge describes their connection as a "story of admiration, respect."

"He was inspired by what his father did to the point where he became a P.D. in the local police department and then later found himself as a field agent, FBI agent," Hodge explained of his character. "I wanted to make sure that his father was very much present in his life [and] when you see them in their relationship, now you have an understanding of their foundation, which is one of, 'Look, I'm the father. This is my job. This is what you can do, this is what you can't do.'"

Though his father, who he's so long admired, will have some imperfections that Ray will have to "learn to live with," it's a relationship Hodge is certainly excited to explore in this episode and beyond: "I'm very happy to play out this season, and hope the audiences will enjoy it," he said.

Williams, who fans might know best for his work in series like 21 Jump Street, L.A. Heat and The Leftovers, was the "perfect choice for the role," Hodge said.

"I just identified with his intensity, his charisma, his charm, and it just seemed like it would be a nice fit. And when he showed up on set, he did not disappoint," Hodge said of his new costar. "He showed up with a really bold and vibrant personality ready to work, ready to make things make sense. And I feel that we folded into our relationship, our on-screen relationship, fairly easily. It was just really a natural experience and organic experience to work with him through a lot of the scenes that we had. I think he's a perfect addition to the [Dick] Wolf world here."

As the promo for the upcoming episode indicates, the Fugitive Task Force will have to grapple with a potential serial bomber who's targeting retired police officers in the episode. Plus, Ray will get the chance to take his relationship with Cora Love (Caroline Harris) to a whole new level.

We'll have to wait to see how all of these pieces come together for the character when the episode airs on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
