What to Expect from the Lunar Eclipse and Capricorn Full Moon on July 5

On Sunday, July 5, there's a full moon that is also a lunar eclipse. This particular lunation occurs in hardworking Capricorn, which often represents authority. This is a relevant thing to note, as this eclipse happens the day after Fourth of July. This year's Independence Day will probably be unlike any we've seen before; many of us have been protesting against police brutality and speaking up against systemic racism in this country, as it's clear that not all of us here are truly free. We're also still enduring a global pandemic, and many folks will continue staying indoors to stay protected from COVID-19. Capricorn is also all about productivity, so it's time to reimagine how that looks as we we question and challenge capitalism.

Use your skill set to sew masks, organize protests, or call your elected officials to demand justice.

During this full moon and eclipse, you'll find yourself wondering how you can be most useful to your community. You may realize that you can't be as productive or helpful as you want without taking care of yourself, too. If you can, use this Sunday to relax and practice self-care. Due to the global pandemic, many of us have lost jobs or a substantial amount of income. This full moon in Capricorn can't fix the economy, but it can give us a nice little cosmic kick to look for new ways to contribute to our communities. Use your skill set to sew masks, organize protests, or call your elected officials to demand justice. There are many valid reasons folks can't be out on the streets protesting, but there are many other ways you can protest and lend a helping hand.

While the general public tends to jump at the chance to view an eclipse, astrologers actually want you to lay low if you can. Eclipses are wild cards. They lead to sudden endings, and yes, that includes breakups. Don't worry, however, if you're in a healthy relationship — eclipses only bring endings that were already bound to happen anyway. Eclipses speed up time, and help us reroute back onto our karmic path. They also bring buried emotions to the surface. If you know you're with the wrong person but have been too timid to do anything about it, an eclipse may throw some conflict your way to initiate the breakup for you.

Things are changing, but it's not easy.

Capricorn is a strict sign. Sunday, July 5 may give you a hardcore case of the Sunday scaries. Eclipse energy is erratic and stressful. You may guilty for not doing enough. Remember that we are going through a global pandemic and turning point in history thanks to the protests against racism and police brutality. Things are changing, but it's not easy. Your life has changed because the world has changed. Use this day of self-care to be gentle with yourself. It's OK to take it easy on a Sunday, especially during a full moon and an eclipse the day after the Fourth of July.

While eclipses are erratic wild cards, the full moon in Capricorn (a grounded, realistic earth sign) also brings comforting manifestation. Yes, life has been shaken up in a major way. We're seeing both the worst and the best in everybody. Maybe you cut people off in your life for problematic political views or for not agreeing with you on social distancing, but you've likely also met some new folks over the past few months who now feel like family. Use this time to remind yourself how strong you are, and how strong your community is.
